Babyfest

OK, this is more for my own recordkeeping, so I can stop making lists when trying to figure out when babies are due, who knows what their baby is, etc...

KS: boy, 2.14
EA: boy, 2.20
AR: boy, 3.22
RJ: boy, 5.5
AL: boy, 5.7
JS: boy, 6.5
NW: 6.18
And a few I'm not sure of specifics:
HL: girl, ?
WG: ?, 6.1
NW: ?, 6.18
SH: ?, summer sometime....
KO: ?, ?

Yup. in case you counted, that's 12 babies in ~4 months. I don't blame Kat for passing up on my water. The crazy thing is, most of them don't know each other...two know each other, and another set of 3 know each other, but that's it! And my mom seems to think someone is due 2.5, but I can't recall who.

J +1

Flexcell contacted me...the drive is functional! Yay :)

Technology +1

I finally set up the Flexcell system. Turned it on, went to install Office....and the cd/dvd drive isn't working. Won't open, not listed in hardware devices. And there's a tag that if you try to open the CPU you void the warranty. Fantastic. I have contacted them re:this.

Trying to install an older version of Ubuntu onto the bricks. They really might just be a lost cause. I've also been advised that I should just replace the printer....le sigh. I really want to figure out what the problem is though - I guess that's the engineer in me.

Technology: 4. Colleen: 1.

J vs. Technology...

Right now, technology is winning.

I've been trying to set up our new Flexcell system. I just have to attach the reservoir to the vacuum pump. And try to remember how Jack unplugged the incubator to get the tubing in, but plugging it up such that it's still closed from the room's atmosphere.

I was asked to update software on three bricks (very outdated laptops). Originally, I was going to install XP on them, but our dept can't find their XP cds (like the lab's printer, they apparently walked away). So, I decided I'd go the Linux route. However, with the newest brick, I get to a certain point in the Ubuntu installation and I get the following error: -bash: /dev/null:Permission denied. The other two don't even have DVD drives, so I was going to try Puppy Linux, but that's not being cooperative either. Damn Small Linux looks like it might be the way to go. Any thoughts?

Lastly, I have an HP photosmart all in one (C3180). It was 'free' when I got laptoppy (nearly 2 yrs ago). Since then, it sat under Mom's desk acting as a tennis ball blocker. However, it's not turning on. It's not the power brick, because I tried that with Mom's and it worked. The light on the power button turns on and the buttons' backlighting turns on, but that's it. HP will charge $40 to dx the problem, nevermind fix it. Suggestions?

Back to fighting the tubing of the Flexcell system.

7 Things you may not know...

1. I was my school spelling bee champ 3 yrs in a row.
I think my last year I was 15th or so in the regional bee. I don't remember what word knocked me out the first time - the second and third were merganser and hostel.

2. Not only can I touch my toes, I can usually lay my palms flat on the ground.
I'm weirdly flexible. I can't do splits (box or side), but my hammies for some reason are sorta slack. It's puzzled more than one md, pt, and massage therapist!

3. Even if I get married, I'll keep J as my last initial.
It's the name that will be on my diploma and any papers that get published with my grad work (unless anything happens between now and May). I kinda like it anyway :)

4. I've been featured in a comic strip.
Really - it was PhD Comics! I got to eat dinner with Jorge too, as a reward for postering campus about his talk. Hey, it worked!

5. I don't have a middle name.
Really, it's so I could take my maiden name as a middle name upon marrying. See#3 for how this has backfired. Mom doesn't have a middle name either, and she didn't take her maiden name as a middle name...that'd be a mouthful!

6. I screwed up the 'order' in my family.
Mom, Dad, Michael and I all graduated from Lowell High. Mom, Dad, and Michael all graduated from MCC...with Michael and Dad in the same program. Thus, I have screwed up royally by going to UML and RPI! I joke that maybe I'll go back for a fun degree, but to keep the 'order' I'd have to go for radiologic technology like Ma! Hmm...

7. I have closet 'girly' traits.
I have a large collection of bath/shower goodies, fair share of makeup considering I don't wear it on a daily basis, and a decent nailpolish collection. Ironically, that's about the extent of it.
